    James Banks commits to Texas

The road to his decision was sudden, long and winding but James Banks ended his recruitment with his commitment to Shaka Smart and the Texas Longhorns.

Banks slowly hit the radar of college coaches in September 2014 and picked up a little steam with a stellar high school season but when he hit the circuit, playing for the Atlanta Celtics on the Gauntlet, he exploded. He picked up offers from colleges across the country and which led to a long vetting process which led him to the Longhorns.

Banks is still a work in progress but he has a very good foundation to work with, He is long, runs the floor, good on ball defender and shot blocker and has some touch around the basket. Smart and his staff will have to get him in the weight room to increase lower body strength but that should be an easy fix. The added strength will allow him to hold post position and increase his ability to finish through contact.

Banks chose Texas over Vanderbilt, Purdue, Georgia, Mississippi State, Georgetown and others.

So far, the class of 2016 has been able to live up to its billing as one of the most talented classes in the last 20 years or so. Will it stand up to past great classes such as 1995, 2004, 2007 and even 2013? Only time will tell, but there's no doubt that the group is progressing nicely.
